How to apply for a Grant

The Scottish Churches Architectural Heritage Trust assists with the repair of religious buildings in use for public worship. Grants may only be applied for on forms available from

Before contacting us, please read the following very carefully:

The Trust WILL consider applications for

  • Repairs to or restoration of the structure of church buildings in use for public worship;
  • Other work essential to preserve or to recover the identity or continued function of the building as a place of worship within the context of an accepted religious tradition;
  • Conservation work upon items of special artistic quality or having associations with the history of the building and its significance to the community;
  • Summary conservation reports.

You may find it useful to examine these examples of grants awarded in previous years to determine whether your project may be considered.

Grants are NOT given for

  • Church halls, manses, other ancillary buildings, boundary walls or gates;
  • Alterations or extensions;
  • Bells, bell frames or organs;
  • Electrical, plumbing or other services;
  • Disabled access or toilets;
  • Decorating costs.
  • Quinquennial and other regular architectural inspections.
